A note from the authors:

The Color Workshop, the exercise used for chapter 4 of Breaking Out of the Box was designed and developed over many years by Robert C. Ward, a private consultant who works with all types of organizations on team development, strategic planning, and a process called action learning.

Mr. Ward has graciously given us permission to use this exercise in the book. However, his request, and therefore ours, is that this exercise and the materials provided by Lyceum Books be used ONLY in the context of courses where Breaking Out of the Box has been adopted and is being used as the text for the course, and UNDER NO OTHER CIRCUMSTANCES. As educators and social workers, the authors understand that time and financial constraints may make it seem practical and tempting to use the same exercise or materials in a variety of settings. We hope that you respect our request and refrain from using the Color Workshop exercise outside classrooms using Breaking Out of the Box.

If you would like to discuss training possibilities for the Color Workshop, please feel free to contact Mr. Ward at rcward@comcast.net or to visit his Web site at www.lbltd.com.

Using the materials:

You can print out the handouts on a color printer and they will print the way they appear on your screen. OR you can print them out in black and white and put them on colored paper. The paper, the fonts, and the pictures are all specifically designed as part of the exercise and should attract specific personalities.

Processing is the most important part of this exercise, so please be sure that you have time to process immediately after your group completes the project. You may want to consider collecting the cards at the end of the session for your own reuse and to minimize the potential of students using the materials elsewhere.

Thank you!

Kelly Ward & Robin Sakina Mama
