About the Authors

Margaret Gibelman (DSW, Adelphi University; MSW, Rutgers University) was professor and director of the doctoral program at the Wurzweiler School of Social Work, Yeshiva University, in New York. Professor Gibelman worked in the human services as a clinician, supervisor, educator, and manager. She was executive director of the Lupus Foundation of America and the National Association of School Psychologists. She was also associate executive director of the Council on Social Work Education and served as a management consultant to the National Association of Social Workers and the Council on Accreditation for Services to Families and Children.

Rich Furman (PhD, Yeshiva University; MSW, University of Pennsylvania) is associate professor and director of social work at the University of Washington, Tacoma. Professor Furman is the author of Practical Tips for Publishing Scholarly Articles: Writing and Publishing in the Helping Professions, and coauthor of An Experiential Approach to Group Work. He has written over 100 articles, chapters, and books on social work practice with transnational Latino populations and the role of the arts and humanities in social work practice, education, and research. Professor Furman teaches direct practice courses, with a special focus on group work. He has many years of experience engaging in clinical, macro, and educational groups.
